Houston Cinema Arts Festival and MacGregor Elementary

(posted by Paul Reisler) We had an amazing week--Donald Sosin and I wrote ten songs with kids at MacGregor Elementary in Houston--4 of them for the 1924 silent film version of Peter Pan and performed them all at the fabulous Miller Outdoor Theatre with the kids, some of the the music teachers from on drums, electric guitar and cello. Then Donnie, Joanna Seaton, the drummer, Ron Cole and I went down into the pit and provided the score for the film under the leadership of Donnie. I was so entranced by the film that i felt like a 2nd grader.

Our next residencies are in Charlottesville Nov 30-Dec 4 at Jackson-Via and Nov 7-11 at Murray Elementary. Free concerts are usually at 1:30 and 7:00. Check with the school for details.
Here's a video from Houston:

And the lyrics:
I forgot I hated school, I’m having so much fun
Failure’s so much stress, when I don’t do my best
So I’ve got a little recipe for success
I put in a little bit of hard work
And a whole lot of love
And when I mix it all together
With inspiration from above
I’ve got music
I’ve got music
I’ve got music

Carrots help our eyesight
Green beans help us grow
Milk makes our spines strong strong strong
School teaches us what we need to know
But our teachers are the ones
Who help us get along
Makes us feel special
And fill our hearts with song

Chorus:

Friendship keeps us happy
Sunshine makes us smile
Exercise makes us strong strong strong
But a little education takes us many miles
But our teachers are the ones
Who help us get along
Makes us feel special
And fill our hearts with song

Chorus:

Sometimes it makes us happy
Sometimes it makes us sad
Sometimes it makes us cry
Sometimes it makes us laugh
Without music there’d be no rhythm
Life wouldn’t even rhyme
Dancing would be completely useless
And we couldn’t even stay in time

Chorus:
